Taxi Driver Insurance
Taxi drivers are regulated by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and are required to hold commercial insurance in accordance with SFMTA standards.

Personal Driver Insurance
Personal drivers (also called Transportation Network Company or TNC drivers) are those who transport passengers using their personal vehicle. Personal drivers must have personal auto insurance that meets or exceeds state requirements. See state requirements here.

For Personal drivers, we are also required by the California Public Utilities Commission to maintain excess liability insurance providing at least $1 million per-incident coverage for incidents involving Personal drivers and their vehicles while they are en route to a Summon rider or are transporting an Summon rider. The insurance we carry is excess liability insurance designed to supplement your personal auto insurance. You can view Summon's certificate of insurance for its Personal drivers here.

Commercial/TCP Drivers
TCP drivers are independently regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission and are required to hold commercial insurance in accordance with CPUC standards.
